Container Depots Filling Up

With the current downturn in world trade container depots across the globe are reaching capacity. As consumer demand weakens and shipping lines cancel routes and lay up vessels many container storage facilities now find themselves at bursting point. The Far East has been the worst hit with many container companies opting to have their containers restituted there in the hope that as and when trade picks up exports from the Far East will return to pre 2008 levels.
Mainland Europe has also been hit hard with container redeliveries and many of the major port locations are now struggling for capacity.
In previous years with overstocking in Europe shipping lines and leasing companies have looked to reposition empty equipment to the Far East. With such congestion worldwide and current fuel costs this does not seem such a likely solution at present.
